  •   This is a normal variant often confused with a fracture.

  •   It is a common congenital fragmentation of the patella and usually needs no treatment.

  •   Occurs in approximately 1 % to 2 % of the population.

  •   Most patients are asymptomatic.

  •   Fragment usually occurs on inferior, superior or lateral portion of patella.

  •   Smooth margins ( eburnation ) along the adjoining surfaces will aid to differentiate from acute fracture( as well as clinical correlation).
