This is an injury of the juvenile patient
Patient may present as pain in hip, thigh or knee.
It is the most common hip disorder of adolescence.
Often presents as atraumatic pain or as only minor injury.
More common in boys 3 : 1.
Risk factor – obesity.
Recommended X-Ray : ………………Anteroposterior and ” frog-leg” ( lateral view with knees flexed, ……………….feet together, thighs abducted ).
Management – ………………..Emergency orthopedic consult. ………………..Will require surgical reduction and fixation.
This is a Salter-Harris I classification fracture.
Prognosis – ………………….Usually good……but an avascular necrosis can develop ………………….and subsequent chronic pain.
